[Tiny Tip] Delete Blank Rows with Go To Special
Blank rows can interrupt sorting, filtering, and data analysis. Excel's Go To Special feature can find them all at once so you can remove them in seconds.
1. Select a Key Column
Select the cells in a column that should contain information for every valid record, such as Name, Order ID, or Date.
Do not select the entire dataset. Otherwise, Excel may select individual blank cells inside legitimate rows.
2. Open Go To Special
Press the following keyboard shortcut:
Ctrl + G
In the Go To window, click Special.
You can also access the command from:
Home > Find & Select > Go To Special
3. Select the Blank Cells
Choose Blanks.
Click OK.
Excel will immediately select every blank cell within the selected column.
4. Delete the Blank Rows
Right-click one of the selected blank cells.
Choose Delete.
Select Entire row to remove the full row OR Shift cells up to only affect the selected column.
Click OK.
Excel will delete every row connected to the selected blank cells.
Important
Always use a column that should never be blank for a valid record. If legitimate records can have blank cells in that column, those rows will also be deleted.
